Outfit Log #5: 1995 Boy

Jenn Im of ClothesEncounters had a meetup during New York fashion week and fans were invited to submit photos of outfits they would don and submit it on instagram for a chance to actually meet her. Apparently, the contest winners were random (which is absurd...why should contestants even bother to coordinate an outfit if the judges were not even going to examine the submission and photos stolen off other people's blogs or from store merchandise photos were acceptable? Okay...mini rant session over) so needless to say, I was not chosen to go to the exclusive party. Thankfully, the event organizers acknowledged the complaints of the disgruntled so there was a free meet up in Central Park's Sheep's meadow. I would post an obligatory photo here of the meeting but in the picture, Jenn looks so impeccably put together and so poised that I look dowdy in comparison haha--I'm sorry...it's my pride that refuses to let me upload the photo.

(Edit: It was pretty amusing--the John Lennon/Beatle fans that were standing at the "Imagine" memorial were openly staring at our congregation with bemused, puzzled expressions [as if thinking...what could possibly be *more* interesting than the mosaic memorial?]. That said, the meet up was pretty hectic to the point that some girls were actually chasing Jenn around...O.O)

Below is the photo/ outfit I submitted to be considered for the party meetup:
Snapback: Boy London x UO
1995 crop top: Smithson clothing (UO)
Wool high waist skirt: Vintage
Creepers: TUK
As I am looking at these photos...all I can see is that my hand is constantly near my face haha--I was feeling rather self conscious as passerbys kept staring at me holding an impromptu photo shoot
Closeup: Better photograph of my makeup. I really wanted to emphasize the monochromatic theme of the outfit so I [over]drew my eyebrows (making them as dark and full as possible--to the point that it looked natural--not clownlike [I hope...]), used white eyeshadow with dramatic black liner, and left my lips bare.

Outfit Log #4: Lolita Archangel Print (Thursday)

I think I may retire my Lolita attire until Fall//Winter...I can't handle the layers of clothing or others staring at me on the streets (I admit, I mean I occasionally enjoy the attention but there can be too much of a good thing...).
Edit: The intro was written in July...I'm just too lazy to think up of/write another one. I apologize.

Headpiece: sweetmildred (Etsy)

Metropolitan Special Exhibit (Punk: From Chaos to Couture) Photos

Here are my (not so candid) photos of the Met's 5th most popular exhibit to date. Before people (potentially) begin harping on me and telling me that no photos were allowed (mind you, I was by no means the only one taking pictures), my pseudo excuse is that I was originally going to keep these photos for my own inspirational purposes but after a particularly nasty encounter with one of the museum staff I decided to upload all of the photos of the clothes I managed to sneak. I concede, this blog post is my not so mature act of rebellion.*

Despite the critiques  I've seen floating around the internet (claiming that the whole show was ingenuine--that punk is an organic style and the exhibition was too obviously curated, editorial and commercial), I thought that the exhibit accomplished what it set out to do: educate those who did not necessarily grow up during this era, remind those who did, and showcase iconic (or punk inspired) pieces. The museum didn't promise to recreate the phenomenon (the atmosphere driving the designers' visions) or to examine the societal influence and impact of the fashion...
Needless to say, I enjoyed the whole spectacle enormously (It featured bondage pants and clothes of Westwood [I mean, Vivienne Westwood defined punk] and Watanabe...some of my favorite designers so what's not to love?).

Entrance with two mannequins clothed in Westwood and Dior (I believe)

Outfit Log #3: Waterfall Skirt (Wednesday)

I hope everyone's Independence day was enjoyable--mine was rather uneventful just strolling with my mother around the neighborhood to watch others set off fireworks at close range...
This was my [summer appropriate] outfit for the third of July:
Denim blouse: Forever21
Chiffon waterfall skirt: no brand
Platforms: Jeffrey Campbell (Lana)

Outfit Log #2: Neko beanie (Tuesday)

Happy Fourth of July!! (although my neighbors have been letting fireworks off in adjacent streets for the last few weeks already...)
I know...it's crazy...I'm still wearing a jacket` in this weather...and a beanie. It seems that the hotter it gets, the more compelled I am to don autumn clothes.
Plaid uniform dress: Lands End
Camouflage jacket: Bellfield
Biker Boot: Alice+ Olivia x Payless (Madison)

Outfit Log #1: Baroque Print (Monday)

So begins the weekly breakdown of my outfits--mind you, I don't consider Saturdays or Sundays "days of the week" in that on weekends, I predominantly sloth around the house in pajamas: watching reruns, eating (an ungodly amount of snacks), catching up on new posts on my loooong list of blogs I follow, and take periodic cat naps.
Sweater: Comme des Garcons SHIRT
Blouse: Comme des Garcons x H&M
Print pants: Forever21
Platforms: Jeffrey Campbell (Sound)

Fururun & Usagiyouhinten Reviews

Sooo...I finally got around to writing this post ( I should be doing my school work right now but as usual, good old procrastination intervenes).
The fantastic wardrobe posts on egl in January (There is something delightfully voyeuristic about going through the contents of another's closet--if only virtually and not physically) motivated me to start building up my loli wardrobe--I decided to refrain from making random purchases (oh my goodness, that dress is so cheap! I must have it) only to end up not wearing the impulse buys and focus on hunting down my dream prints (of which I have a whole list). Of course, like any other loli, I lurk on the egl comm sales and various second hand shops hoping to find a good deal so without further ado here is my review of two less well known second hand sites (I feel as though one on the infamous Closetchild is unnecessary--everything is very professional and all items are sent through EMS).

[FANACC] KAT-TUN Encounter

I was meaning to officially start with a more mundane post—something along the lines of “More about me” or an outfit post but then the incredible happened to me yesterday.

Prologue

Hello World.

(Excuse me...this will be a dense post so feel free to skim; I view this blog as a [less personal] journal to exercise my fingers and my mind...)

I suppose introductions are in order; I will be ranting, reminiscing, recounting (whatever word suits your fancy) under the pseudonym Joules. As the blog name suggests, various subjects (people/groups and topic alike) will cameo on this site-- these posts will be about things I am [currently or perennially] obsessed about (or hate); so without further ado, here is a list of my interests:

(1)Kpop. Don't mistake me for one of the new inductees-- I have been a hardcore Kpop inhaling fan since 2007-2008 or so (ah the second coming of the Kpop Golden Age after the 1990s era of H.O.T./ FinKL/ Sechkies/ G.O.D.). Like many others, TVXQ!/DBSK was the group that drew me in and to this day, I remain a steadfast, proud  Cassieopian (this includes being a supporter of both JYJ and DB2K). My favorite groups/solo artist include: DBSK ( no explanation needed/- they reign in the top of any of my lists) INFINITE ( a close second contender for my love of DBSK), BIG BANG (I would not be American if I didn't love this group... It seems as though this is only group that Americans know or are capable of liking) ah well they will never know what they are missing!), SHINee (perhaps the only group I've followed ever since their debut), and Jay Park. Granted, I have way more songs by other Kpop or less mainstream groups but those listed above are the groups that I consistently go back to (waste hours watching subbed reality shows) when I'm depressed or whenever I start feeling disillusioned by all the uninspired pieces released by recent Kpop stars. (I am slowly starting to love B.A.P. , B1A4 and I do listen to Hyori, Rain, Super Junior, Beast, UKiss, 2NE1, LEDApple-- I pay attention to all artists new or old).

(2) Lolita/Alternative Fashion. I adore classic bordering on gothic Lolita fashion and my favorite brands are as follows: Baby, the stars shine bright; Alice as the pirates; Juliette et Justine; Innocent World; and Moi Meme Moite. I was introduced to this fashion after reading Novala Takemoto's Kamikaze Girls (of course... Haha) and just like Momoko, I am obsessed with Vivienne Westwood's rocking hose ballerinas which leads me to my next love... shoes- my personal motto regarding shoes is the higher and crazier, the better. I live in my rhs (alas not from VW-- I have to scrounge up my money to purchase those someday) but I also love Jeffrey Campbell shoes (I have begun a modest collection if you can even call it that) and UNIF shoes. Jewelry...clothes....fashion--I'm a girl, what else is to be expected?

(3) JROCK. Ah...where do I start...my voice fetish (the sweet dulcet tones of the singers--I swoon) or their beauty? No matter...a short and growing list of my JROCK loves include GACKT (of course, he is possibly the fittest man on Earth considering his age); Ruki, Aoi, & Reita (the GazettE); Kanon (An Cafe); Shou (Alice Nine); and  Miyavi. I also listen to L'arc~en~Ciel, SID, Mucc, Girugamesh, Versailles, Nightmare, and Malice Mizer (I do love visual kei--guys in makeup and leather tight clothing...). * NOTE: I do listen to JPOP as well (I was briefly obsessed with KATTUN--and I still faithfully watch every drama with Kame.)

Expect to see DIYs, reviews of products, entries of my travels, ootds, hauls or whatever I feel like sharing with the rest of the world on this blog.
I do hope you stay.

I hope that I will entertain you (somewhat).

Again, I hope you will stay...

until then...
